Drink and drugs in the workplace
Article Abstract:
A research paper published in 1995 by the British Health and Education Authority showed that 90% of 123 personnel directors of the large UK businesses surveyed considered alcohol consumption to be a problem in their organization, and 17% described it as a major problem. Concerns involved a loss of productivity and poor performance, lateness and absenteeism, the effect on team morale and poor discipline, and adverse effects on the organisation's image and customer relations. Many employers also acknowledged drug dependency to be a problem.
