Effect of the Convention on the Rights of the Child upon street children in Latin America: a study of Brazil, Colombia, and Guatemala
Article Abstract:
The Convention on the Rights of the Child has failed to impose the standards mandated by the document on countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Guatemala which are notorious for children's rights violations that include abuse, torture, sexual abuse and illegal detention of children. The Convention is ineffectual if it does not have sufficient judicial authority to implement the standards. It has to strengthen its enforcement mechanisms in addition to condemning repeated violators of children's rights if it is to do its job successfully.

Professional detachment: the executioner of Paris
Article Abstract:
The sense of professional duty that executioner Charles-Henri Sanson expressed in operating the guillotine during the reign of Louis XVI and during the Reign of Terror in France is similar to the sense of duty expressed by lawyers and others engaged in morally ambiguous actions. The role of the executioner was to carry out justice decided upon by society. To stay within the role, the executioner was to have no discretion in carrying out these actions. A fictional dialogue between Sanson and the writer Mercier demonstrates these ideals.
