Employing ex-offenders: a risk or an opportunity?
Article Abstract:
Ex-convicts are often very motivated workers anxious to prove themselves and a large pool of potentially skilled labor, some of them, can, however, be reluctant to search for work when they could earn more money from crime. Other advantages in employing such people for an employer include improved public relations and the feeling that they are helping to solve societal problems. Ex-offenders want the same thing from work as other people. They want the feeling of enjoyment and earning an adequate income which a satisfying job can bring.

'Tracking' sex offenders
Article Abstract:
The tracking of sex offenders in the UK needs to be reconceptualized in a manner that emphasizes knowledge and risk assessment. Current strategies do not adequately address the known modus operandi of an offender, and often fail to track offenders' movements and activities. A nation-wide tracking database is needed, and communities and victims need to be allowed input on the management of released offenders.

Ex-offenders and enterprise
Article Abstract:
Prisoners in the UK appear to be more entrepreneurial than the general public, and may benefit more from small business training than other segments of the population. Also, a high percentage of offenders have small-business and business ownership experience. Training that addresses the needs of this segment of the prison and probation population may be effective.
