FMCS at the 50 year mark: an interview with John Calhoun Wells
Article Abstract:
John Calhoun Wells, director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), believes FMCS's purpose is to help management and labor compete and prosper and that FMCS must become more pro-active. FMCS was created in 1947 as independent agency with the goal of stabilizing labor-management relations. It's purpose has been expanded to include providing labor-management committee grants starting in 1978 and providing alternative dispute resolution services starting in 1990. FMCS mediators are trained to provide a variety of mediation services.

Adjusting working conditions to the economic crisis: the Cameroonian experience
Article Abstract:
Successful labor laws should create a balance between employer and worker powers and minimize government intervention. Cameroon's efforts to end its economic crisis demonstrate both extremes in that the pre-1992 codes were pro-worker while the 1992 codes are pro-employer, neither providing the stability necessary nor significantly impacting the economic crisis. The failure of these laws demonstrates that a long-term solution is necessary with the government as a mediator between employers and workers rather than a controlling force over both.

A human rights perspective on U.S. labor relations law
Article Abstract:
The article tries to answer whether the content and application of US labor law violates the basic civil right of freedom of association. The author concludes that the basic civil right of freedom of association should trump employer property and speech rights at the workplace, and that employer interests would not suffer undue damage if this happened.
