Opposition proceedings are alternative to court; actions in foreign patent offices allow for cheapter and faster resolution of validity issues
Article Abstract:
Patent opposition proceedings, often called revocation or annulment, are available in many foreign countries and provide for an administrative resolution by the patent office before litigation. Some countries, such as Japan, China and Australia, have amended their patent laws to provide for post-grant opposition proceedings, although older applications are still sometimes handled with the prior, pre-grant procedure. Advantages of using foreign proceedings to oppose a competitor's US patent position are listed.

New law will facilitate adoptions of foster kids; with the passage of the new adoption law, more attorneys will be needed to handle termination and adoption proceedings
Article Abstract:
The goal of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 is to help foster children by speeding up adoption and the law amends the Social Security Act to do so. The child's safety and health become the state's paramount concerns rather than family reunification. The time a child must spend in foster care waiting for a plan to achieve a permanent home is also one-third less. States had to make reasonable attempts at family reunification before adoption was an option before the act.
