Article Abstract:
Commercial ventures launching an Internet site should be aware of many related legal issues, starting with domain name registration and trademark clearance. They should retain rightful ownership of the intellectual property constituting the site, and get insurance in case any audio or video content infringes others' rights. The Net's international character complicates content downloads, contests, and product sales. Other issues include privacy, jurisdiction, and being a distributor, not a publisher.
