"Graceful Merchants": a contemporary view of Chinese business ethics

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine business ethics in modern China from the perspective of experts, scholars, enterprises and Ministries that were represented during the Beijing seminar on "Market Culture." Four case studies were analyzed which highlighted the Chinese transition from the traditional to contemporary business ethics. Results indicate people's dissatisfaction which is partly blamed on the weakening of professional morality and the growth of money-worship.

The ethics of participation

Article Abstract:

The 11th Annual EBEN Conference held in the autumn of 1998 in Belgium had 'ethics of participation' for its theme. More than 40 papers were presented attempting to evaluate and analyze the renewed interest in participation theories and practices from an ethical perspective. A broad concept, participation refers to a set of practices that includes participative management, employee ownership and corporate citizenship.
