Voice recognition software has made great strides, but attorneys and others using the technology must still proofread carefully as the accuracy rate is only 90%. A technology survey by AmLaw Tech included a question about voice recognition in its survey of the 100 largest US firms, and answers revealed that almost 30% of firms are testing voice recognition in pilot programs. technology. Advertisers now litigating rivals' fishy claims; traditional private dispute resolution, though cheaper, becomes less popular
Article Abstract:
The National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has a service resolving advertising disputes within 60 days, but more corporations are still filing suit, an avenue which is expensive and disruptive of business. Litigation attracts companies due to the enormous damages awarded. No damages are awarded in NAD dispute resolution, but it costs only about 1/5 of court or arbitration, is fast and takes a broad view of standing. Companies whnich use NAD do not give up their right to litigate.

Daley: encryption controls need work; the Commerce Secretary airs his differences with the FBI and the White House
Article Abstract:
Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley observes that export regulations might be eased now that the Department administers encryption regulations and that Dec 1996 Commerce Department regulations make a major concession to encryption manufacturers who want to export their products, creating a license exception for their export. Daley thinks Department of Commerce employees enforcing these regulations have a sufficient technical background for the task.
