In-house staffing plan needs fresh approach
Article Abstract:
Corporate law departments do not have the profit motive that private firms have, and the efficiency of a department depends on such factors as the attorney-support staff ratio, the use of computers, what portion of the work is done by outside counsel and whether the law department is centralized or dispersed. Law departments must make sure that attorneys are not doing work that could be done just as effectively and less expensively by paralegals. Some work should always be sent to outside counsel so that year-to-year vagaries in the workload will not necessitate layoffs.

Preparation of witnesses may well determine company's fate at trial
Article Abstract:
Corporate legal departments should prepare witness development programs to improve their clients' chances of successful litigation. A good program should be carefully planned and should cover cross-examination, issue resolution, giving responsive answers and defending against hostile questioning. The most essential factor in witness development is comprehensive practice.
