Intellectual property: suitable for protecting traditional medicine?
Article Abstract:
The protection of traditional medicine by intellectual property law should only be determined by reference to the cultural context of the medical knowlege. Trying to compare traditional knowlege to the kind of knowlege usually protected by intellectual property law will not work. Traditional knowlege is not always guided by the kinds of economic factors present in most existing intellectual property law.

Framing pictures: defining art in UK copyright law
Article Abstract:
The definition of works as "art" for copyright purposes takes into account the way in which they were produced. But this method has several shortcomings. It would be more efficacious to use a method in which a work's "artistic character", or the social context in which it was created, is the determining feature.
