Non-philanthropic corporate involvement in community development
Article Abstract:
Corporations wanting to aid local community development are not restricted to purely philanthropic activities. There are many ways for corporations to benefit their communities without harming themselves financially. Companies, for example, can make sound business decisions about facilities location, job creation and training programs, workforce composition and procurement practices that also enable the community to gain economically and socially. Adopting popular stances on a variety of issues can likewise be financially beneficial to the company as well as responsive to the community.

Community development banks: urban renewal that works
Article Abstract:
Clinton's community development bank plan has received mixed reviews from the banking and credit industries, but all agree that community development requires access to credit. Community development financial institutions have been successful in their goal of providing loans for small business in inner cities, but the banking industry complains about the abundance of red tape in making such loans and is seeking less regulation. Clinton's plan to develop credit institutions that are independent of existing banks has not been well-received by the banking industry.
