Fighting on foreign soil: religious right groups prepare for European legal battles
Article Abstract:
American religious rights groups sponsored and advocated an expansion of state tolerance of religious freedoms in the European Union. Religious organizations such as the European Center for Law and Justice seek to have the EU's Court of Human Rights recognize greater religious freedoms and separation from the continent's states legislative powers. To battle fears of American cultural imperialism, the groups maintain a low profile and employ local barristers and religious leaders.

Superstars or falling stars? New associate $101,000 salaries may be fast track to disaster
Article Abstract:
Starting salaries paid by large city law firms have approached $101,000 in New York City, with those in other large cities not far behind, and experts believe starting lawyers may lose their jobs when the legal market flattens, as it did in the 1980s when the corporate mergers and acquisitions market flattened and put pressure on law firm partners' profits. The situation may be worse in the 1990s because more clients are insisting on preset fees rather than using billable hours.
