Privatizing power plants generates complex deals: host country risks and murky law can complicate negotiations for investors and lawyers
Article Abstract:
The privatization of power resources by many countries coupled with increasing power demands in many parts of the world have made power plants an attractive investment. Most of the risks involved can be addressed in power purchase agreements with customers, which will be needed before any huge investment is made. Such agreements provide for guaranteed payment to finance development and construction, and are essential for raising capital in this highly leveraged field.

India returns insurance to private sector; by privatizing the industry, Parliament is offering foreign investors access to one of the world's largest developing markets
Article Abstract:
India's insurance industry has been under government control since the country since the country won its independence from Britain in 1947, but a bill pending in parliament would not only privatize it but open it to foreign equity participation. The government assurances foreign investors seek seem to include removal of the many administrative and bureaucratic hurdles they have been faced with when attempting to do business in India.
