The last priesthood: the coming revolution in medical care delivery
Article Abstract:
The concept of a certified home practitioner (CHP) is proposed as a new category of certified health care provider. Requisites for certification would include formal courses on practical anatomy and applied physiology and pharmacology; physical assessment or patient examination; basic treatment procedures; and the use of certified, computer based, medical expert systems. Benefits and drawbacks of such a concept are discussed.

Methods used by the US government to encourage medical research are discussed, with focus on the use of patents and direct government funding. Advance commitments made by the government to purchase new vaccines are also recommended.
