A commercial venture: supporters portray business courts as white knights rescuing overburdened justice system
Article Abstract:
Business courts are gaining a following nationwide, with five states already using them in some form and 10 more exploring the idea. In Oct., the New York Court of Appeals' chief judge announced an expansion of the experimental business court in Manhattan and the creation of another in Rochester. Critics of specialized business courts say they offer a brand of justice not available to everyone, but backers say they maximize existing resources by making some judges more efficient, and keep businesses in the public court system.

Equal justice: would color-conscious jury selection help? Yes: a racially diverse jury is more likely to do justice
Article Abstract:
Deliberate selection of racially diverse jurors would enhance fairness and promote public faith in the jury's decision without the drawbacks that accompany other forms of affirmative action. Demographic quotas have long been used in composing juries, and they further all the goals that a sizable jury is intended to reach: variety of viewpoints, representativeness of the community, and more. People chosen or rejected on the basis of race will not be stigmatized or branded inferior, and crude stereotypes are avoided.
