The woodchips decision
Article Abstract:
The Australian Federal Court held, in Tasmanian Conservation Trust, Inc v. Minister of Resources, that a current evaluation of the environmental impact is necessary for the approval of a natural resources export license. The Court ruled that the Minister of Resources had failed to adequately consider the environmental impact because the decision was based on a 1985 impact statement and so the license application should have been referred to the Dept of Environment under the Administrative Decisions (Judicial Review) Act of 1977.

Making docile lawyers: an essay on the pacification of law students
Article Abstract:
Institutionalized psychological distress explains the pacification, insecurity, and fatalistic attitude of Harvard Law School's and perhaps many other law schools' students. Methods of legal instruction encourage loosening of commitments to larger social issues and standards of justice while encouraging an increased sense of philosophical relativism. The importance of grades, and, perhaps for the first time in life, not being in the top 10%, may lead to reduced self-confidence.
