The legal structure of the Chinese "socialist market" enterprise
Article Abstract:
China's 'socialist market' economy is steeped in ideas more akin to socialism than a true market economy, as evidenced by the legal underpinnings of the country's economy. Though deregulation has allowed more competitive business practices, public ownership is still the norm, and the companies are characterized by traditionally socialist philosophies. These include a managerial structure aimed at worker control, commitments to reinvestment that place community over profit, and a legal definition of ownership that invokes notions of community membership.
