What YLD did this summer: lawyers volunteer to give kids in 21 cities a leg up in life
Article Abstract:
The ABA Young Lawyers Division began a program in 1992 called the Aspiring Youth Program that exposes disadvantaged youth to the benefits to be gained from working hard and getting an education. Students meet after summer school to talk with community leaders and professionals who describe how they worked to achieve their current positions. Students then participate in educational and sports activities. The program acts as a summer camp for those who cannot afford one and attendance has been strong, indicating the students are enjoying the program.
