Farm felonies: Crop fraud scams cost taxpayers millions, political connections hinder prosecutions
Article Abstract:
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that crop insurance scams cheated the US Treasury out of $160 million in 2004, and a USDA-funded data mining firm in Texas discovered that at least 2,000 farmers a year file suspicious claims. Due to disinterest on the part of insurance companies, crop insurance fraud has become rampant and significant contributions from political action committees also hinders legal prosecution of offenders.

Overdoses: Medicaid records reveal link between drug deaths and doctors, pharmacies

It was later found that many of Medicaid's top prescribers of narcotics were the same doctors that experienced abnormally high numbers of patient deaths.
