An analysis of the impact of the explosion of the space shuttle Columbia upon re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere, the impact that this accident has had and the need for space research and exploration programs to continue. It is contended that astronauts know and accept the risks the face when they enter the space program and that space exploration could be vital for the future of humanity.
