Mass purchase of newspapers violates First Amendment rights
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled in the case of Rossignol v. Voorhaar that a Sheriff's and his deputies' actions in buying an entire press run of a local newspaper was a violation of the paper's civil rights. The officers had purchased the papers to keep negative comments about the sheriff from being disseminated to the public on Election Day.

Handling of subpoenas juder DHS worries journalists
Article Abstract:
The Department of Homeland Security's policy on using subpoenas to obtain journalists' information is not clear. They should adopt a policy similar to that of the Justice Department. The Justice Department's guidelines require Department officials to cooperate with journalists and to get authorization from the Attorney General before having subpoenas issued.

Questions of Internet jurisdiction spin web of confusion for online publishers
Article Abstract:
Several recent cases have dealt with the question of the liability of Internet publishers for violating libel and other laws in jurisdictions other than the one in which their publications originate. US courts have generally held that only the law of the jurisdiction where content originated governs such liability.
