Ban on post-trial talks with jurors upheld
Article Abstract:
The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld in United States v. Cleveland a federal district court judge's ban on newspaper interviews of jurors in a controversial case involving former state senators and the former governor. Two New Orleans, LA, newspapers, The Advocate and The Times-Picayune, claimed the district court order constituted unreasonable prior restraint. The appellate court ruled the order was narrowly tailored to protect the administration of justice.

Law barring 'sexually explicit' publications in prison upheld
Article Abstract:
The US DC Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Amatel v. Reno on Sep 16, 1998, overturned a federal District Court decision and ruled a law prohibiting the dissemination of sexually explicit materials to prisoners was constitutional because it furthered the rehabilitative purpose of prisons. Three prisoners protested the law on 1st Amendment grounds. The District Court claimed the law did not meet neutrality test of regulations.
