Probing military dangers: use of super ammo raises health concerns
Article Abstract:
The use of depleted uranium ammunition in the Gulf War may be responsible for the health problems suffered by US soldiers who served in the war and by Iraqi citizens who live near the war zone. The proposal to use A-10 Warthog jets, which used the super ammunition, in Yugoslavia in 1999 caused concern that similar health problems would develop. The US initially denied reports that it was flying the planes and using the ammunition.
