Radical mimesis: the "Pinter problem" revisited
Article Abstract:
Critics of Harold Pinter's plays have attempted to explain obscure dialog by asserting that the Pinter's language use in these passages is action within a social context or non-representational. However, it is not clear what sort of use this is supposed to exclude. Wittgenstein's remarks about language and the distinction between meaning and use are unhelpful. The distinction of representation which tells versus that which shows, mimetic and diegetic, provides the key to understanding Pinter's use. Pinter's drama is almost entirely mimetic.

Women and mimesis in Medieval and Renaissance Somerset (and beyond)
Article Abstract:
Women had an active role in Renaissance and Medieval theater, as shown by an analysis of the records from Somerset, England. Female activities are documented for guild drama, parish fund raising, liturgical drama, itinerant performers, entrepreneurs, patrons and sponsors of shows. Somerset has important historical records but it is typical of its times, so it is safe to generalize about the widespread participation of women in theater.
