The pleasures and perils of teaching science fiction on the college level
Article Abstract:
Teaching science fiction brings both pain and pleasure. Among the problems of teaching science fiction are the reluctance of administrators to offer such a course, the huge number of enrollees, ordering textbooks which are often out of print, lack of critical material on science fiction works and teaching a class of diversified interests, some of whom do not have any idea of what science fiction is and are expecting to simply be watching science fiction. The greatest pleasure, however, lies in having open-minded, adventurous and often the brightest students.
