Wu convicted of spying, stealing China's secrets: Chinese-born American activist released before Clinton visit
Article Abstract:
Chinese officials arrested human rights activist Harry Wu in June 1995 for stealing state secrets and spying and detained him until August. Wu had worked with '60 Minutes' to expose prison camps producing goods for export to the US. US officials worked to find out information regarding Wu and to expedite his release. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for these charges and then expelled. His release appeared to be a precondition to Hillary Clinton's visit for the UN Fourth World Conference on Women.
