An overview of the field of therapeutic genetics and the use of gene therapy to treat various physiological disorders. It is noted that while there are dangers involved in gene therapy research and that mistakes will be made, gene therapy has the potential, in the long term, to ensure that no children are born who will only live short lives and that the world can be made a better, safer place to live.

The best clues for such findings lie in organisms adapted to some Earth's most extreme environments such as from deep ocean vents, deserts, and the Artic Circle.
