Missionary roots
Article Abstract:
Henry R. Luce who was to become one of the world's most influential publishers firmly believed in the significance of an American presence in Asia and was one of the most powerful journalistic voices in the US on the subject of China. Though these beliefs resulted from Luce's geopolitical leanings and his commitment to the Cold War, they were also a product of having spent his entire youth in China as the son of a Presbyterian missionary.
