The fires of faith
Article Abstract:
Religion is portrayed in American media as a reactionary social and political force, and as an excuse for sentiment and commercialism. Thus, stories dealing with religion often focus on charity work by nuns and Christmas plays by children. In one aspect, this lack of interest in religion shows the difficulty of objectively viewing religion. However, this attitude also means the failure to acknowledge the depths of American society.
