An analysis of the probability of default on federally guaranteed student loans

Article Abstract:

A probit model is used to analyze default rates for 2,000 federally guaranteed student loans. Individual factors such as graduation, parents' income, presence of both parents at home, and race, are strong determinants of default. Conversely, institutional characteristics such as program length, school size, nature (private/public), and college dummy variables, are not. The results suggest that penalities for colleges with high default rates may be unfair.

X-ray and enzymic studies on amorphous cellulose of the Macroalga Ulva

Article Abstract:

Crystalline and amorphous cellulose in dietary fibre from the green macroalga Ulva have been analysed using X-ray diffraction and enzymic methods. It is observed that the results predicted for the ulva cellulose by X-ray pattern are consistent with the enzymic hydrolysis results. Experiments revealed that crystallinity of Ulva cellulose can be increased with physio-chemical treatments.

Full-text TV

Article Abstract:

C-Span is different from regular television stations in that it seems to promote discontinuous inattention and provides passive images to viewers. In contrast, other television stations present fast-moving images. C-Span is interesting because it presents intermittent speech and is respectful to its guests.
