On international and national dimensions of risk sharing
Article Abstract:
The implications of risk sharing across Canadian provinces, US states and G-7 countries were determined. The estimation method was used which produced a parameter that measures the fraction of the annuity value of individual income that individuals of different regions pool. Results showed evidences of more risk-sharing across Canadian provinces and the US states than there is across the G-7 countries. It was also shown that the absolute amount of risk sharing in terms of the variance of fitted changes in annual consumption is very large for the provinces and states.
