Public subsidies, private provision of care and living arrangements of the elderly
Article Abstract:
The living arrangements of aged individuals who opt to either live independently, live in an intergenerational household or enter a nursing home are analyzed in terms of the impacts of public subsidies on such arrangements. The developed model was estimated after the effects of state policies on each arrangement were quantified. Multinomial probit and National Long-Term Care Survey data were used to estimate the model. Direct subsidies for nursing home care and state policies that limit nursing home beds or reimbursement were found to have a significant impact on the choice of living arrangement.

Efficiency in social versus private agricultural production: the case of Yugoslavia
Article Abstract:
An analysis of efficiency in Yugoslavian agricultural production is presented. Efficiency is tested by applying the stochastic production frontier. It is shown that the private sector is more productive than the social sector. An analysis of regional efficiency disparities likewise shows that less developed republics exhibit the inability to efficiently manage voluminous investment resources allocated from their more developed counterparts.
