Equipment for Special Operations at sea

Article Abstract:

Special Operations sea equipment, such as surface ships and submarines, enable leading navies to transport their personnel to virtually any location. Sophisticated equipment, such as the Advanced Target Submarine (ATS), Advanced Surveillance Vehicle (ASV) and Autonomous Swimmer Delivery Vehicle (ASDV), allow special forces to effectively perform their missions, ranging from underwater mine clearing to assaulting and disabling targets. The US Navy, for instance, will procure the Advanced Seal Delivery System (ASDS) for its Navy Sea-Air-Land (SEAL) operatives.

Manufacturers are facing the main challenge of coming up with a correct balance between size and weapon systems. This surfaces as people differ or face difficulty in distinguishing the frigate and the corvette. For instance, various modern frigates are in fact deserving to be classified as destroyers. On the other hand, some smaller navies refer to the term corvette to refer to warships big enough to be rated as frigates.

Non-nuclear submarine propulsion

Article Abstract:

Air-independent propulsion (AIP) military submarines are emerging as less costly alternatives to nuclear-powered submarines. Viable designs such as those that were successfully implemented by Kockums for the Swedish Defence Materiel Command are expected to be widely adapted by the world's navies in the coming years. It is predicted that once this happens, no new non-AIP submarine will ever be constructed again.
