China's Navy today
Article Abstract:
China's Navy cannot be considered yet a superior power in light of significant modernization and operational problems. The People's Liberation Army Navy is manned by around 268,000 officers and men, including 28,000 coastal-defense forces, 25,000 naval air forces, and some 7,000 marines. However, its surgace ships, submarines, and aircraft continue to lack the sophisticated weapons and sensor systems which characterize modern first-line naval units.
