Special Forces and counter-terrorism
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF) provides blunt military power in anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism measures in hostile environments of weak states like Iraq and Afghanistan. Although the SOF is useful in Foreign Internal Defense (FID) and in intelligence collection, the activities of terrorists in urban areas and the likely negative effect that a Western military action can have on public perceptions result in limiting the utility of SOF in counter-terrorism measures.
