Politics, film studies, and the academy: a commentary
Article Abstract:
Film studies as an institution is affected by two factors namely politically related contemporary theory of paradigms and the relationship between the paradigms and institutionalization of film studies in the academy. Issues such as elitism and paternalistic impulses are raised by the academic professionalization of contemporary film theory. Film studies must move away from careerism and focus on social reality to maintain the creative and constructive activities of field.

Challenging narratives: Crossovers in prime time
Article Abstract:
The characters of films, "Crossing Jordan" and "Las Vegas" are depicted in each other's shows on NBC, one of the long lines of crossover episodes in long-running TV dramas. This crossover strategy is designed to attract more viewers so that the networks can negotiate higher advertising rates by creating attention to attract audiences during sweeps periods.

The other living-room war: prime time combat series, 1962-1975

The television programs 'Combat,' 'The Rat Patrol,' and 'MASH' are contextualized within America's changing attitudes towards the war, and the programs' themes that supported or condemned the military are detailed.
