Reconceptualizing screen performance
Article Abstract:
A study presenting various ways to think and analyze screen performances by not just reading actors' performances but by considering the ontology of film and of the philosophy of knowledge, through which screen performance makes sense, is illustrated. 'Godfather' is cited an example where increased ostensivenss of a principal star performance drew attention to the skill of the acting, mobilizing certain gestural codes in ways that foreground technique.

Directing actors for the screen

The article describes an interdisciplinary approach to training undergraduate student actors for performing in motion pictures. Combining acting and directing classes, rehearsal techniques, technical filming issues, and marking shooting scripts are discussed.
