The main tendencies of the film education system in perestroika
Article Abstract:
The current Soviet film school system needs to achieve a more effective balance of teaching the humanistic and the technical sides of cinema. Humanistic training should include the study of the culture of other nations. Administrative, pedagogical and curricular innovations should be made in all levels, from secondary to post-graduate courses, starting at the Vsesoyuznyi Gosdarstvenyi Institut Kinematografii (VGIK), the oldest Soviet film school. Other film schools also need to be established.
