Article Abstract:
Some of the material in the Lucy Broadwood Collection in Vaughan Williams Memorial Library challenges present-day orthodoxies of folk music. The vast collection had been gathered and recorded, but in 1972 when the music manuscripts were to copied onto microfilm the collection was disrupted. In the 1990s the collection was rearranged and organized.

Article Abstract:
The first major field-workers in folk lore worked to organize and identify and copy individual songs and dances of major collections from libraries around the world. Prior to this time folk lore had was bare accepted as an area of formal academic study and therefore little research was conducted in this area.

Vaughan Williams and the modes
Article Abstract:
Ralph Vaughan Williams and other collectors of folk songs let their own preferences and their drive for a 'national' type of folk song influence which songs they collected and published. Because they sought the unusual, modal songs that did not fit current day melodic scales, where inordinately represented.
