A history is presented of the @ sign, which is an integral part of the electronic mail addressing system. The sign was first used in an email address by computer engineer Ray Tomlinson, who was trying to find a keyboard sign that would not appear in any person's name.

The Moran portrait prize, set up in 1988, had a reputation for being rather conservative compared to the Archibald prize. Now it is the other way round with a greater variety of portraits being entered for the Moran prize.
