This article describes the negative reaction among some Australian critics to a lecture given in Sydney by Jacques Derrida, the postmodernist French philosopher. Relevant points include the critics' failure to understand the nature of Derrida's work properly and of the widespread popular interest in new ideas suggested by the large turnout for Derrida's talk.

Children are increasingly becoming violent as a result of violent movies, video games and the Internet. The shootings at Columbine High School in Denver has generated much debate about how children can become so violent without much of the society noticing. Many blame the media for encouraging children to behave in such in a confrontational manner.
