A pointed Nobel: two East Timor activists share the Peace Prize

Ramos-Horta and Belo were recently honored for their efforts in bringing international attention to the human rights problems of East Timor. They have been outspoken critics of Jakarta's repressive rule over East Timor. The Nobel Peace Price will help the independence movement.

Emasculated mission to the East
Article Abstract:
Canadian trade minister Ed Lumley complained of lack of responce from Japan after his recent trip there to attempt to persuade the Japanese to relax some of their protectionist commercial policies. Lumley was attempting to develop a better balance of trade with Japan.
