A well-deserved honor for Riel
Article Abstract:
The Canadian House of Commons posthumously honored Louis Riel, who was hanged in Regina in 1895. Riel was leader of the Metis, French and Indians who opened the West while hunting for buffalo and trapping furs. Riel was hanged for declaring the much of the prairies as an independent republic.
