AT&T comcast reach truce
Article Abstract:
AT&T has reached an agreement with Comcast and Microsoft that calls for Comcast to back out from its $46.9 billion bid for MediaOne. The agreement will leave AT&T's $53.1 billion bid for MediaOne unchallenged, paving the way for AT&T to become the country's dominant cable TV giant. In exchange for dropping its bid, Comcast will receive cable systems that have 2 million subscribers. Microsoft, which was planning to help Comcast in the bidding war, will get to have its software in more of AT&T's set-top boxes.

USDA approves irradiated meat
Article Abstract:
The US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) has approved the proposal by beef producers to kill foodborne muicrobes through the irradiation of fresh and frozen meat. USDA said that it will require that packaged meat products carry a logo and statement that the food has been irradiated. Support for irradiation technology has grown due to the increasing outbreaks of foodborne disease, although some consumer groups are afraid that food producers would skip sanitation procedures when using the irradiation process.
