Article Abstract:

This article examines the lack of effective political leadership that is preventing Europe from taking on the more prominent geopolitical role for which it is well suited. Relevant points include the need to more fully integrate the nations of the former Soviet bloc and bolster their economies, and the need for leadership more satisfactory than that provided by Germany's Gerhard Schroder, Britain's Tony Blair, and others.

Article Abstract:

British Prime Minister Tony Blair's popularity as a left-of-center politician has mystified the public. Blair's challenge is to resolve tensions between a European geography and political interests, and a North Atlanticist economics and diplomacy.
