African continent's around 850 million people are poorer as of July 2005 largely due to AIDS, low average life expectancy and high rate of infant mortality. But the International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicates that the overall growth in 2005 is expected to be 5.4 percent due to the various painful economic reforms carried out in South Africa in the past ten years.
