America's most unwanted
Article Abstract:
This article examines the controversial findings of two econometricians, Steven Levitt and John Donohue, linking the the legalization of abortion in the early 1970s with the dramatic drop in the crime rate in the 1990s. Relevant points include the suggestion that the corresponding reduction in the number of unwanted children, the kind most likely to grow up to commit crimes, caused the drop in crime, and the negative reaction of right-wing anti-abortion ideologues to these findings.
