The 44-span, 13-km Confederation Bridge was built in an astonishing 1,332 days, including four 5-month winter periods where the only work was in pre-casting on land. The Svanen floating crane ferried huge, precast sections into the strait. The bridge's auto safety and ice-breaking features are described.

Atlantic Canada has a thriving film and television industry, helped in part by tax credits and creative individuals who chose to stay in the region. Three nationally-shown TV programs are set in the region. They are 'Black Harbour,' 'Summerside, P.E.I' and 'Gullage's.'
