The prime ministers of Pakistan and India met in a New York hotel in Oct 1998 to discuss peace. They agreed on a Oct 15 as the date to begin talks on the disputed region of Kashmir. They promised to put an end to fighting across their borders, open a hot line for instant phone contact between their offices, and launch a passenger-bus service between Delhi and Lahore. They also announced they will work to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty before year 2000.
