Bay Street bonanza: million-dollar bonus cheques are no longer a rarity

Many top executives and traders in Canada's securities and banking industries earned year-end bonuses totally more than $1 mil. CIBC Wood Gundy Pres John Hunkin earned $4.9 mil in compensation for 1996. Defenders of the bonuses say they are tied to performance and are less than in the US.
